Mercedes A vs B Service
Maintaining your Mercedes with the right service plan is essential to keeping these luxury vehicles running at their best.
The good news is that Mercedes introduced a maintenance schedule in 2009 that explains what service your vehicle needs and when. In order to ensure you receive the correct maintenance for your vehicle at the right time, Mercedes has labelled the different maintenance services A and B.
In this blog, we explain the difference between Mercedes A and B Services and how South Coast Garage can meet all of your Mercedes service needs with better value than the local Mercedes dealer can offer, without compromising on quality.
The Mercedes A Service
After the first year (or 10,000 miles) of ownership, the Mercedes A Service is an essential maintenance procedure.
During this service, the following inspections, checks, and adjustments are carried out:
- The engine components of your Mercedes require synthetic motor oil replacement to ensure proper lubrication and cooling.
- In order to prevent harmful particles from entering and damaging the engine, the oil filter must be replaced.
- For optimum fuel efficiency, to prevent uneven tyre wear, and to maintain vehicle safety, tyre inflation will be checked and corrected.
- A thorough inspection of the brake system and components is conducted to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Mercedes dashboard warning messages should be reset and the service records on the Mercedes system or logbook updated once the service has been completed.
The Mercedes B Service
Approximately one year after the A Service, the B Service will be performed, This service offers a more thorough inspection and part replacement, as follows:
- Synthetic motor oil is used to ensure your Mercedes’ engine components are properly lubricated and cooled.
- In order to prevent harmful particles from entering and damaging the engine, the oil filter must be replaced.
- For your cabin to remain pollen-free and dust-free, the cabin dust/combination filter needs to be replaced regularly.
- For optimum fuel efficiency, to prevent uneven tyre wear, and to maintain vehicle safety, tyre inflation will be checked and corrected.
- A thorough inspection of the brake system and components is conducted to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Mercedes dashboard warning messages must be reset by the service garage and service records must be updated on the Mercedes system or logbook.
The following year after the B service, your Mercedes will once again need the A service and will thereafter alternate between the two services each year.
A and B Service Levels for Older Mercedes Models
There are some older Mercedes models that come with more specific A and B Services that owners should be made aware of. When this happens, you may see a warning message such as A7 service or B4 service on the dashboard.
These services require the A or B Service, along with additional servicing of specific components. Here’s what they mean:
- A0 or B0 Service – Sunroof cleaning and lubrication and renewal of spark plug for certain models.
- A1 or B1 Service – Replacement of brake fluid.
- A2 or B2 Service – Replacement of brake fluid and sunroof cleaning and lubrication.
- A3 or B3 Service – Replacement of the air filter and spark plug renewal.
- A4 or B4 service – Replacement of the air filter, spark plug renewal, and sunroof cleaning and lubrication.
- A5 or B5 Service – Replacement of the air filter, replacement of the brake fluid and spark plug renewal.
- A6 or B6 Service – Replacement of the air filter, replacement of the brake fluid, spark plug renewal and sunroof cleaning and lubrication.
- A7 or B7 Service – Replacement of automatic transmission oil and transmission filter replacement.
- A8 or B8 Service – Replacement of automatic transmission oil, transmission filter replacement and sunroof cleaning and lubrication.
- A9 or B9 Service – Replacement of automatic transmission oil, transmission filter replacement and brake fluid replacement.
Signs My Mercedes Needs a Service
Whenever your next service is due, you’ll be reminded by a light on your dashboard. Check your vehicle settings if you don’t see this message.
Locate the service menu on your Mercedes dashboard. From here, you can access the ASSYST PLUS feature. The dashboard will display a message informing you of the service you need and how long it will be until your next service.
