Mercedes A Service
Having an issue with your Mercedes is not what you’d expect. What would make it worse is if the issue could have easily been prevented. This is what could happen if you choose not to perform routine services on your Mercedes.
Regular servicing ensures your Mercedes keeps working as it should. During a service, technicians might detect small issues that need to be addressed before they get worse.
After all, the longer you wait between services, the more likely it is that your Mercedes will break down. Not only is a breakdown inconvenient, but it can also pose a safety risk to you and other road users.
To make sure your Mercedes is kept in peak operating condition, the manufacturer has created distinct service types, they are known as:
- Mercedes A Service
- Mercedes B Service
Following the service schedule closely will help prevent unwanted breakdowns and safety risks, whilst maintaining your Mercedes warranty.
During a recent visit, our client came to us in their Mercedes C-Class with a service light. Our specialist team at South Coast Garage immediately assisted them by working out which service was due and performing that service.
Choosing us for your next Mercedes service will ensure your car is safe to drive and is handled properly thanks to our team of experts who have access to dealership-level systems and tools.
What is the Difference Between a Mercedes A and a Mercedes B Service?
We get this question a lot at South Coast Garage.
Let us explain the difference between a Mercedes A and B service:
The Mercedes A Service includes:
- Changing the oil filter
- Putting in new synthetic motor oil
- Checking the brakes
- Make sure the tyre pressure is right
- Resetting the maintenance counter.
Mercedes recommends the A Service for cars when they are one year old. After the first service, you’ll need to do this every two years, depending on how much you’ve driven.
Now, the B Service is more thorough.
Mercedes suggests the B Service a year after the A Service and then switching each year. It’s a good idea for older cars or those that have been driven a lot.
Here’s what the B Service involves:
- Swapping out the synthetic motor oil
- Changing the cabin dust/combination filter
- Resetting the maintenance counter
- Renewing the oil filter
- Checking the brakes.
Unsure which service our customer’s C-Class needed; our team was able to assist. As our Mercedes specialists are experts when it comes to A and B services, whilst having dealership-level access to service information, we were able to quickly find out for them.
What Happens During Our Mercedes Service
With the same access as a main dealer, our team dived into the vehicle records to work out that the customer’s C-Class required a Mercedes A Service.
Upon beginning the service routine, we always perform extra safety checks. In the customer’s case, it was a good job we did, as their C-Class had misaligned wheels. Over time this can happen as suspension components are subject to normal wear and tear. Misaligned wheels can be a result of hitting potholes, speed bumps, kerbs, and objects in the road.
Initially, it may not be troublesome, but over time, misaligned wheels can cause uneven tyre wear and handling issues which risk your safety and can be expensive to repair.
Luckily, our client came to us at the right time, as the C-Class wheels had not caused much damage. Despite this, we noticed tyre wear on the right front tyre which needed addressing before it left our workshop, as the tread was below the 1.6mm minimum tread depth.
Performing the Wheel Alignment and Mercedes A Service
Before the customer came to collect their vehicle, we wanted to make sure it drove away safely. We always take our clients through every step of the process. This meant our team reached out to our client to explain the wheel alignment and tyre issue and seek approval before carrying out any work.
At South Coast Garage, we believe in transparency. This is why you aren’t left with any unexpected repair costs when you come to collect your Mercedes. We called our client, and once theywere happy for us to proceed, we began fixing the C-Class.
We replaced the worn tyre, performed the wheel alignment adjustment, and ensured that the problem was solved the same day. Our safety inspections uncover minor issues and verify that your vehicle meets road safety standards.
Once the client’s C-Class passed our safety inspection, we performed the Mercedes A service, and it now ran like new.
Our client came to pick up their vehicle and was delighted that we fixed and serviced their vehicle the same day.
At South Coast Garage, we go above and beyond for our customers. With dealership-level access to information and specialist knowledge from our team, you get a complete service at better-than-dealer value.
Mercedes A Service
Upon visiting our workshop, our client was unsure which type of service was due on their Mercedes C-Class.
With a team of specialists on hand, South Coast Garage was able to identify that the Mercedes C-Class needed a Mercedes A service.
Thanks to our dealership-level access to service records we can solve this problem the same way a dealer would, but in a much quicker timeframe.
Our technicians also perform a safety inspection for every vehicle that enters our workshop. During this inspection, our client’s C-Class had misaligned wheels and an excessively worn front right tyre.
We contacted our client to seek approval for the suggested wheel alignment adjustment and tyre replacement and began work right away.
This meant our client’s C-Class was fixed and serviced the same day, with no further issues which could have meant another garage visit.
