Troubleshooting the Audi SQ5 Engine Light Issue
Our team of expert technicians at South Coast Garage know everything about the common problems amongst Audi vehicles and began working on the engine light diagnosis right away.
Diving deeper into the root cause of the engine light issue, our technician scanned for error codes to reveal two immediate problems. Combining our advanced diagnostics equipment with industry-leading knowledge, our technician began working on a repair procedure for our customer’s Audi SQ5.
The error codes that were discovered are outlined below:
- P200600 – intake manifold flap for airflow control, bank 1 – stuck while closed.
- P200400 – intake manifold flap for airflow control, bank 1 – stuck while open.
Here lies the problem! Once our technicians identified the right system, they began working on a repair process and investigated further by looking at Audi technical bulletins and the Technical Product Information (TPI) system for solutions.
Fixing the Intake Manifold Airflow Issue
Once the fault codes were cross-referenced using the information in the technical bulletin, our specialist examined the air intake flap. The intake flap controls the air flowing into the engine and upon inspection, the customer’s air flap was not able to move.
The next stage of the repair process involved removing the intake boost pipe. Once it was removed, a borescope was used to assess the carbon build-up inside the flap, our technician reported that there was a lot. Carbon builds up naturally due to combustion but can be made worse by driving habits or when there are combustion issues.
After analysing the engine, the technician discovered no faults with the air intake system, and it was not the cause of excessive carbon build-up.
The next stage involved removing the flap and cleaning out the carbon build-up. However, after cleaning, the problem did not disappear. The air intake flap needed replacement as the technician discovered damage to the internal motor components.
The intake flap was replaced with a new genuine unit, the software was reset, and every repair was performed according to Audi technical bulletins to leave no stone unturned. Finally, the engine management system needed to be updated using Audi’s ODIS tool. Once this was complete, there were no warning lights on the dashboard, and the Audi SQ5 SUV was ready to be handed back to the customer.
